Each item is knitted by an experienced knitter - some are professional knitters and have knitted for the main wool mills and others have been knitting since they were children and have knitted for their children and grandchildren.
Nearly all knitters are Grannies and are happy to be knitting for a new generation of children.
Each handmade item has the Granny's name on it and here are some of their stories:
Barbara loves knitting tank tops and jumpers in multi-coloured stripes (groovy she calls them) or with pictures on them. Many of the patterns she uses she knitted for her grandchildren (they are in their 30's now).
Kath learned to knit as part of the war effort (2nd World War). She knitted socks for the Navy. The wool was rough and oiled and used to hurt her hands but she says it was worth it when the sailors wrote thank you letters saying how grateful they were for the socks.
Val says that her mum taught her to knit and she spent her childhood dreaming of a shop bought cardigan.
We even have families of knitters:
Nicky and Jackie (sisters)
Lilian and Joy (sisters)
